WAPDA Highlights Community Uplift through EU Grant under 2nd Warsak Rehabilitation Project with Event in Aka Khel Village, Peshawar

Warsak, June 2025 – The European Union (EU), through AgenceFrançaise de Développement (AFD) as Lead Partner, in collaboration with the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), marked the successful completion of EU Grant under Warsak 2nd Rehabilitation Project with a closing event in Aka KhelVillage of theLocal Community with help/support of Mr. ArbabMansoorAlam, X-Nazim Village Aka Khel. The event showcased the project’s dual commitment to modernizing energy infrastructure and empowering communities through sustainable livelihood interventions.

The Warsak Rehabilitation Project was designed as a comprehensive effort, not only to rehabilitate and upgrade the infrastructure of the aging Warsak Hydropower Station, but also to uplift surrounding communities through local development programs. Beside enhancement of Technical aspects of Warsak Hydropower project, the project also implemented a comprehensive Community Development Program (CDP) under the EU Grant to address critical community issues:

  • In the local community sector, the CDP introduced impactful interventions that continue to enhance daily life and livelihood resilience, including Installation of Deep Tube wells, improving access to safe drinking water.
  • Upgradation and solarization of public schools, ensuring a reliable power supply and better learning environments.
  • Renovation of Existing Tube-Well Rooms, Supply & Installation of Pipe Line,
  • Supply & Installation of Hypo Chlorinator for provision of safe drinking water facility in Aka Khel Village of the local community.
  • Construction and rehabilitation of essential infrastructure, fostering better connectivity and social interaction.

These contributions, enabled through the EU Grant, have played a transformative role in improving public services and economic opportunities across the Warsak region. Local representatives noted that access to clean water, quality education, and resilient infrastructure has directly contributed to livelihood empowerment and long-term prosperity.

The event was organized by the WAPDA Warsak team, led by Mr. Hameed Ullah Khan (Chief Engineer / Project Director), Mr. Muhammad Idrees (Project Engineer), and Mr. Shahid Nazir (Executive Engineer Civil), who emphasized the project’s sustainable impact and the pivotal support of the European Union in bridging infrastructure with social progress.

Community members, local officials, and project staff gathered to celebrate the visible improvements and shared their appreciation for the inclusive approach that has turned this development project into a people-centered success story.
