WAPDA Concludes Community Development Program (CDP) Component of EU Grant under 2nd Warsak Rehabilitation Project with Event at Gara Tajik Hospital, Peshawar

Warsak, June 2025 – European Union (EU) through Agence Française de Développement (AFD) as Lead Partner, in collaboration with the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) concluded the second phase of its flagship Warsak Rehabilitation Project with a closing event at Gora Tajik Hospital, highlighting the project’s commitment to both infrastructure advancement and community upliftment.

The Warsak 2nd Rehabilitation Project was conceived as a holistic initiative—not only aimed at upgrading and modernizing the aging infrastructure of the Warsak Hydropower Station, but also at improving the quality of life in the surrounding communities. Alongside major works such as the installation of sediment management systems, modernization of mechanical workshops, and flood mitigation measures, the project incorporated a robust Community Development Program (CDP) that addressed the pressing needs of the local population.

One of the key beneficiaries of the CDP was Gara Tajik Hospital, where a series of impactful interventions significantly improved healthcare service delivery. These included:

  • Provision of modern medical equipment to enhance diagnostic and emergency care capabilities.
  • Construction of a medical warehouse to support efficient logistics and inventory management.
  • Solarization of the hospital, enabling uninterrupted services and energy efficiency and provision of Diesel Generator Set etc.

These improvements have directly contributed to a surge in patient footfall and overall hospital performance, demonstrating WAPDA’s commitment to building resilient, self-sufficient communities alongside hydropower infrastructure. Dr. Irum Qayum, Medical Superintendent (MS) of Govt.  Gara Tajik Hospital told the audience during her speech that the facilities provided by EU Grant are playing a vital role in providing improved medical faculties to the local community as the number of OPD patients have been increased many times as compared to the past.

The event was organized by WAPDA Warsak team led by Mr. Hameed Ullah Khan (Chief Engineer / Project Director) along with Mr. Muhammad Idrees (Project Engineer) and Mr. Shahid Nazir (Executive Engineer Civil) of Warsak HEPS 2nd Rehab. Project, highlighting the extensive benefits provided by EU Grant in life of the local people.  The event was also attended by healthcare professionals, working medical staff and local community members collectively acknowledging the far-reaching benefits of EU Grant for integrating infrastructure projects with social investment.
